Thermowells for Temperature Sensors
Introduction to thermowells
Thermowells are key components that protect thermocouples from harsh environments such as high temperature, corrosion, and wear. Choosing a suitable thermowell can significantly improve the reliability and economy of temperature measurement.

Process connections for thermowells
There are usually three types of thermowell connections: threaded, flanged and welded. It is very important to choose the right thermowell according to the working conditions.

Threaded Thermowell
Threaded thermowells are suitable for use in medium and low-pressure, non-strongly corrosive environments. It has the advantages of easy maintenance and low cost.
Our threaded thermowells adopt an integral drilling process, making the structure safer and more reliable. NPT, BSPT, or Metric threads can be used for process connections and instrument connections, and are compatible with all types of thermocouples and temperature measuring instruments.
Flanged Thermowell
Flanged thermowells are suitable for high temperature, high pressure, strong corrosion or vibration environments. It has the advantages of high sealing, durability, and easy maintenance.
Our flanged thermowell adopts a welding structure, the pipe body is made of whole bar drilling, the flange is produced according to industry standards (ANSI, DIN, JIS), and the instrument connection can be selected from NPT, BSPT, or Metric thread.
Welded thermowell
Welded thermowells are welded directly to the pipe, providing a high-quality connection. Due to the welding process, they are only used where servicing is not necessary and corrosion is not an issue.
Our welded thermowells are machined using a one-piece drilling process.
Styles of Thermowell Sheath
● Straight
It is simple to manufacture, low in cost, and suitable for conventional installation environments.
● Tapered
The thin front diameter improves the response speed, and the tapered design enhances the ability to resist vibration and fluid impact. In scenarios with high pressure, high flow rate, or frequent vibration, the overall drilling design and vibration resistance of the tapered casing are significantly better than those of the straight type.
● Stepped
Combination of straight and tapered features for added strength in specific locations.
Application fields of thermowells
⑴ Industrial Process Monitoring
● Used for monitoring the temperature of media in pipelines and reaction vessels in the oil refining, petrochemical, power, chemical, pharmaceutical and other industries to ensure stable measurement in high temperature, high pressure or corrosive environments.
● Protect thermocouples from mechanical damage and chemical erosion in high-temperature processes such as steel smelting and ceramic production.
● Suitable for the food processing industry to meet hygiene standards and prevent media contamination.
⑵ Energy and Equipment Management
● Measure the temperature of hot steam pipes and boilers. For example, the heat sleeve thermocouple is specially designed for such scenarios and can withstand high-flow steam shock.
● Monitor the operating temperature of gas turbines, boilers and other equipment in power systems to ensure safety and efficiency.
⑶ Research and Laboratory
● Provide stable temperature measurement methods for laboratories to support precise control of extreme conditions in physical and chemical experiments.
